Maharshi Dayanand University was established under Act No. 25 of 1975 of the Haryana Legislature, originally known as Rohtak University, Rohtak, into being in 1976 with the intention of advancing research and higher education in the fields of ecology, the environment, and health science. In 1977, it underwent renovations and reopened as Maharshi Dayanand University, taking inspiration from the eponymous social reformer and brilliant thinker. In its newly formed class, it had a co-branding character, but in November 1978, it changed to become a collaborative university. On March 16, 1979, the University confirmed that the Central Government’s University Grants Commission, which oversees higher education in India, had been adopted.
